Here’s what has happened so far.

Obviously we dated first. For details, check out the May 4 post on my blog. He proposed in the most perfect way, let me tell you. We were basking in each other’s presence, and talking as though we were engaged. He said, “I was going to wait, but let me give you something.” Then he fumbled around his room looking for it. So cute. I realized what he was looking for, but I still swooned when he produced a ring. He got down on his knee (YES!) and said, “This is my mother’s ring as a promise until I can get you your own.” Could it be more perfect? I don’t think so. Later that day I teased him that he hadn’t actually asked. He did, and I gave a very emphatic “YES.”

That was March 28, two days before my birthday. Oh, what a great birthday. We set the date while out for my birthday dinner, and after telling our parents, announced it at my birthday party. I then set about looking on the internet. I’m not sure exactly what prompted me, but I typed Medieval Wedding in the search engine, and a theme was born. I decided on the dress early on, but kept looking. I know it’s the one because I keep coming back to it. Ruth, my Maid of Honor, and I were discussing what the guys should wear, and Bruce over heard us talking about Swash Bucklers, and said “Cool, can I wear a sword.” He’s so cool.

It’s all coming together the way I dreamed. I’ve always wanted an outdoor wedding in the fall. My other option would be early summer on the beach, but this was the first dream. We are on the same page with everything. We drove out to Oak Mountain the other day to look at the pavilions. We had a lovely day, to start with, and then we both knew we’d found the place. It just felt right; to be there is the breeze, next to him. Other things are working out, as well. Both my parents are Presbyterian Ministers. My mom says, “I want to be the mother of the Bride.” Cool. But my dad, he says, “I’d like to do the wedding.” Groovy. He’s going to dress like a monk. Also, my really awesome Uncle Mike is going to do the photography. I like to keep things in the family.

Last weekend we went to register. Again we were in sync with what to choose. It was so much fun to shop and say “Honey, I want this.” “Scan away,” he’d say. They gave us a scanner to shoot things with. The one at Sear’s even resembled something from Star Trek. What fun, what fun.

This Saturday we are going to Atlanta to check out the show room for Museum Replicas. They have clothes that might work for Bruce. No tights, please. I want my man to be rugged and manly. I’ll keep you posted.

Stay tuned for more, like who the Bride's Maids and Groom's men are, our song, and other exciting things!!!
